Makes 6 sandwiches Ingredients:
  • 6 tablespoons butter, divided
  • 1 large sweet onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon beef base, divided
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce, divided
  • salt and pepper, to taste
  • 6 Village Hearth Classic Hamburger Buns
  • 2 cups shredded Swiss cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
Directions: Melt 2 tablespoons of the butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add in the onions and reduce the heat to medium low. Cook stirring occasionally, until lightly caramelized, about 25-30 minutes. If the onions start to look dry or burnt, add a tablespoon of water to the pan.

In a large bowl mix the ground beef with half of the beef base and half of the Worcestershire sauce. Season with salt and pepper.

Add the beef to the skillet with the onions. Increase heat to medium-high and brown the beef breaking it up and mixing with the onions as you go. Once browned, drain off excess grease.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line a baking sheet with foil. Separate the tops from the bottom of the buns, keeping bottom buns attached. Place the bottom buns on the foil.

Evenly distribute the beef and onion mixture over the bottom buns. Top with Swiss cheese. Cover with the top buns.

In a microwave-safe bowl, melt 4 tablespoons butter with the remaining beef base. Stir in the 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce and onion and garlic powder.  Continue to mix until well combined. Using a pastry brush, brush the butter mixture over the top buns. Loosely wrap foil around sandwiches.

Bake the sandwiches until the cheese is fully melted and the tops of the rolls are lightly browned, about 20 minutes.
